WHAT CAN I DO?

There are many ways you can take action to help improve the lives of asylum seekers and refugees...

JOIN BUDDIES HERE

ATTEND BUDDIES MEETINGS

We meet on the 4th Sunday of the month at University of the Sunshine Coast (USC), BUILDING E, ROOM 14.  See Map Here to learn more about and take action on issues that affect asylum seekers and refugees. Our informal meetings often include interesting guest speakers. Newcomers are welcome – just turn up on the day and feel free to stay and mingle over a light lunch after the meeting.

LET POLITICIANS KNOW YOU CARE (1)

These people are supposed to represent you. Contact them to let them know your views on the treatment of asylum seekers. Lets face it, they generally ignore their electors, especially those politicians holding safe seats, but they can't ignore a tsunami of emails and letters (...well, maybe)

FUNDRAISING

You can support Buddies fundraising events (eg concerts, film nights, catering, car parking, markets) in various ways (eg organising, publicising, assisting, attending, donating, cooking).

SUPPORT LEARNING

You may be able to host an asylum seeker from Brisbane for 5 days while they attend a Learn English Holiday program on the Sunshine Coast.

LET POLITICIANS KNOW YOU CARE (2)

Vote strategically.....  We are not suggesting who you should vote for, just that at election times, we should all think of what matters to us, and how our elected "representatives" actually do represent our views.

How does your MP vote on the issues that matter to you?

SUPPORT THE 'KIDS OFF NAURU' CAMPAIGN

Children should not be in detention. They must be given a fair chance for survival and development. All decisions taken about offshore, indefinite detention must first and foremost consider the best interest of the child.
